Case Studies

Financial Services Project Management: Case Studies

 Program Value: $30M
Industry: Financial Services / Banking
Platforms: Enterprise Payments Infrastructure
Role: Program Delivery Lead

 Challenge

A large financial institution needed to modernize critical payment processing infrastructure while maintaining operational stability and meeting strict regulatory requirements. The program involved multiple technology platforms, numerous engineering teams, and tight delivery timelines.

 Action

I established a structured program governance framework to coordinate work across multiple delivery streams. This included aligning architecture, engineering, infrastructure, and business stakeholders while implementing clear reporting, risk management, and dependency tracking.

I worked closely with senior stakeholders and technical teams to ensure delivery priorities remained aligned with the organization’s modernization objectives while maintaining operational stability during the transition.

 Result

The program successfully delivered key modernization milestones while maintaining service continuity for critical financial systems. The structured governance approach improved delivery transparency and allowed leadership to manage risks effectively throughout the program life-cycle.

Banking M&A Technology Integration

  Program Value: $10M
Industry: Financial Services / Banking
Platforms: Core Banking and Enterprise Systems
Role: Program Delivery Lead

 Challenge

Following a major acquisition, the organization needed to integrate multiple banking platforms and technology environments within a tight regulatory timeline. The program required coordination across infrastructure, applications, and data teams while maintaining operational continuity.

 Action

I led the integration program by coordinating cross-functional teams responsible for platform consolidation, infrastructure alignment, and data migration. Strong governance processes were implemented to ensure risks, dependencies, and delivery milestones were clearly tracked and communicated to executive stakeholders.

 Result

The integration program successfully aligned critical technology platforms following the acquisition. By establishing clear program structures and delivery coordination, the initiative maintained progress across multiple work streams while ensuring operational stability.

Disaster recovery Data centre Migration

 Program Value: $8M
Industry: Financial Services Infrastructure
Platforms: Mainframe, Tandem, AS400
Role: Infrastructure Program Lead

 Challenge

The organization required migration of its Disaster Recovery (DR) data centre environment to a new facility while maintaining full recovery readiness for critical enterprise systems. The production environment remained unchanged, meaning the DR infrastructure had to be migrated and validated without impacting live production operations.

The migration involved complex enterprise platforms, including mainframe, Tandem, and AS400 systems, as well as supporting infrastructure across storage, networking, and compute environments. These platforms supported mission-critical financial systems, making reliability and recovery capability essential.

 Action

I led the delivery of the DR migration program by coordinating cross-functional infrastructure teams responsible for multiple technology platforms.

Key responsibilities included:

  • Establishing program governance and migration planning
  • Coordinating infrastructure teams responsible for mainframe, Tandem, and AS400 DR environments
  • Managing migration sequencing and platform dependencies
  • Ensuring infrastructure components were properly replicated and validated within the new DR facility
  • Coordinating testing and validation activities to confirm the environment met enterprise recovery objectives
  • Maintaining ongoing communication with technology leadership and infrastructure teams throughout the migration

Because the production environment remained unchanged, careful coordination was required to ensure the DR environment remained fully synchronized and capable of supporting recovery scenarios.

 Result

The DR data centre migration was successfully completed while maintaining full disaster recovery readiness for critical enterprise systems. The program delivered a fully operational DR environment capable of supporting recovery operations across mainframe, Tandem, and AS400 platforms.

The initiative strengthened the organization’s infrastructure resilience while ensuring that enterprise recovery capabilities remained aligned with operational and regulatory expectations.

Enterprise Data centre Migration Program

Program Value: $14M

Program Scope: PROD & DR Data centre Migration
Delivery Streams: 28 Parallel Streams
Industry: Financial Services Infrastructure
Role: Program Delivery Lead

 Challenge

The organization initiated a large-scale data centre migration program involving both Production (PROD) and Disaster Recovery (DR) sites supporting critical financial systems.

The Production site migration included multiple application life-cycle environments, including Developer, SIT, UAT, and Production environments. Each environment supported different phases of the application delivery life-cycle and required careful coordination to ensure continuity of development, testing, and production operations.

The program involved 28 parallel delivery streams, including internal infrastructure teams, a managed services provider (MSP), technology suppliers, brokers, and broker third-party vendors.

Each supplier, broker, and broker third-party was responsible for establishing connectivity into the new data centre environment by installing two independent network circuits and required hardware. Once installed, each organization had to complete a structured testing process including network connectivity validation, application connectivity testing, and go-live readiness testing.

Because the migration involved multiple external organizations and mission-critical financial systems, strong governance and delivery coordination were required to ensure all infrastructure installation and testing activities were completed prior to final migration cut-overs.

 Action

As the program delivery lead, I coordinated the data centre migration across 28 delivery streams, ensuring that internal teams and external partners remained aligned with program timelines, infrastructure readiness requirements, and testing milestones.

Key responsibilities included:

  • Establishing the program governance structure for the migration
  • Coordinating delivery across internal infrastructure teams, MSP teams, suppliers, brokers, and broker third-party vendors
  • Managing dependencies across 28 concurrent delivery work streams
  • Overseeing installation of dual network circuits and associated hardware for each external organization
  • Ensuring readiness across multiple production life-cycle environments, including:

    • Developer environment
    • SIT environment
    • UAT environments
    • Production environment

  • Coordinating structured testing phases including:

    • Network connectivity validation
    • Application connectivity testing
    • End-to-end go-live readiness testing

  • Maintaining clear program visibility and stakeholder communication throughout the migration life-cycle

The complexity of the program required continuous coordination across internal and external stakeholders to ensure that infrastructure installation, testing, and readiness activities progressed in alignment with the broader migration schedule.

 Result

The program established a coordinated migration framework that enabled internal teams and external partners to complete infrastructure installation, connectivity validation, and application testing across both Production and Disaster Recovery data centre sites.

By implementing structured governance and delivery coordination across 28 parallel work streams, the program maintained visibility into readiness across all participating organizations while supporting preparation for final migration cut-overs.

The initiative ensured that Developer, SIT, UAT, Production, and DR environments were successfully aligned with the new data centre infrastructure while maintaining operational continuity for critical financial systems.

Mainframe Disaster Recovery Modernization

 Program Value: $14M
Industry: Financial Services Infrastructure
Platforms: Enterprise Mainframe Systems
Role: Program Delivery Lead

 Challenge

The organization needed to modernize its disaster recovery capabilities for critical mainframe systems. The initiative involved complex infrastructure environments and required careful coordination to ensure business continuity and regulatory compliance.

 Action

I led the program responsible for coordinating infrastructure, operations, and engineering teams involved in the modernization of disaster recovery environments. Governance structures were implemented to manage dependencies, mitigate risks, and ensure clear communication with executive stakeholders.

 Result

The program strengthened the organization’s disaster recovery capabilities while modernizing legacy infrastructure environments. The structured delivery approach ensured continuity of critical systems and improved the organization’s operational resilience.
